Westpac Asian Exchange Scholarship

The Westpac Asia Exchange Scholarship was established in 2014 by the Westpac Bicentennial Foundation and is valued at $12,000. The scholarship support students who are interested in Asia, and want to actively contribute to Australia's success in Asia in their chosen field. It presents young Australians with the exciting opportunity to spend up to two semesters studying at a leading Asian university and develop global leadership skills.


The Westpac Asia Exchange Scholarship provides the following benefits:

  • Build your own adventure with the freedom and flexibility to individualise your exchange and enhance your experience. 
  • A 10 month bespoke Leadership Development Program 
  • A member of the Westpac 100 Scholars Network.
  • Attend the Westpac Scholars' Summit hosted in a city in Asia
  • Attend the Westpac Welcome Event at your local office and meet your Westpac buddies

Scholarship applicants must be:

  • Be an Australia citizen or permanent resident
  • Be enrolled in second year or beyond when commencing their exchange
  • Hold a minimum of a credit average (H3)
  • Intend to study a one or two semester exchange
  • Not hold or intend to hold another merit based scholarship for the purpose of tertiary study in Asia. 
  • Must have applied for the University of Melbourne exchange program for semester 2, 2017

Westpac Asian Exchange Scholarship are available for study at one of the following overseas institutions:

  • Beijing: Tsinghua University, Peking University, Renmin University  
  • Shanghai: Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University
  • Hong Kong: The Chinese University of Hong Kong, University of Hong Kong 
  • Singapore: National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University and Nanyang Technological University

Once applications close, The University of Melbourne will provide a shortlist to the Westpac Bicentennial Foundation. Then shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a video interview. The Westpac Bicentennial Foundation will convene selection panels to determine successful candidates.
