Melbourne Mobility Excellence Awards

The University of Melbourne offers the following Melbourne Mobility Excellence awards: 

Alan Gilbert Mobility Scholarship

Established by a public appeal and donations, the Alan Gilbert Mobility Scholarship is available to students undertaking study at an overseas institution.

Professor Gilbert was a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Melbourne (1996-2004) and the inaugural Chair of Universitas 21.

The University usually awards at least one scholarship per year.

Wayne and Marion Patten Mobility Scholarship

Established by a gift from Wayne and Marion Patten, this scholarship is offered to students who are Australian citizens and intend to undertake overseas study. Preference is given to graduate students undertaking studies in a Business or Commerce related discipline in particular those who completed an undergraduate degree in Engineering, IT or Science. 

The University usually awards up to two scholarships per year. 


Benefits

The Alan Gilbert Mobility Scholarship provides a one-off payment of up to $4,000. 

The Wayne and Marion Patten Mobility Scholarship provides a one-off payment of $2,500.

Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • be enrolled at the University of Melbourne in either an undergraduate degree or a graduate coursework degree;
  • intend to undertake approved overseas study (Exchange or Study Abroad) as part of your course within 12 months after the closing date; and
  • have achieved a Course Weighted Average of at least 80 in your current course.

Application

You must submit an application for these scholarships using the Melbourne Mobility Excellence Application Form

Selection

Eligible candidates are selected based on academic merit and the personal qualities of the applicants, including demonstrated leadership capacity, public-spirited approach, community engagement, and capacity to benefit from an overseas study experience and the specific purpose of each scholarship. 

Outcome

All applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application within four weeks after the closing date.
