The Robert and Gillian Cook Family Award
This scholarship has been established to support students undertaking studies in the field of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, and undertaking research in the field which will have an impact on the way in which oral and maxillofacial surgery is practiced and delivered, while honouring the contribution of Mister Robert ‘Bob’ Cook, a pioneer in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Bob was extensively involved with the training of oral and maxillofacial surgeons for over 30 years and was active in the development of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Oral Surgeons, later renamed the Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons for which he served as President in 1981.
The scholarship has been generously supported by Bob and Gillian Cook with the support of their family.

Approximately $25,000 per year (pro rata) will be awarded each year to fund research in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
In the event that the committee receives applications from multiple outstanding applicants in a given year, and under the terms of the trust, the scholarship may be divided between candidates.
Graduate Research applicants must:
be enrolled in or applying for entry to a graduate research degree of the Melbourne Dental School
demonstrate skill in the area of oral and maxillofacial surgery or a related research area which has the potential to have impact on the way in which oral and maxillofacial surgery is practiced and delivered.
Submit a proposal outlining the way in which the award will be used to undertake further training and gain experience, or to undertake further research into oral and maxillofacial surgery or a related research area
You must apply for this scholarship by submitting an application form.
The selection committee will assess applicants for the scholarship based on:
faculty scholarship score
demonstrated skill in the relevant research area
terms and conditions of the trust
proposal for the use of the award
faculty scholarship score
conduct interviews with applicants
The selection committee will have due regard for gender balance and will normally comprise of:
Head, Melbourne Dental School or nominee (Chair),
and One nominee from the Melbourne Dental School
One nominee of the Board of Studies, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons (or its successor);
One representative of the family or descendants of the donors. If a descendant of the Donors cannot be located, then a further nominee of the Head of the Melbourne Dental School.
The Chair, Faculty Research Training Committee or nominee.
Successful candidates will be advised of the outcome by 30 June 2017.
