John Hayden Research Fellowship

The John Hayden Research Fellowship was established with a gift from the Mother Rectress of St. Vincent's Hospital for the provision of a fitting memorial to the late Dr John Gerald Hayden, former Professor of Medicine at the University and first Professor of Medicine appointed to St. Vincent's Hospital.

The scholarship is awarded to students undertaking a graduate research degree in the Department of Medicine at St Vincent's Hospital. The fellow must engage in full-time postgraduate studies in Medicine under the general direction of the Professor of Medicine at St. Vincent's Hospital.

See University's Trust Record for more detailed information.

This scholarship is one of several trust-funded scholarships available through the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences for students who have applied for, or are enrolled in a graduate research degree of the faculty.

The duration of the scholarship is up to 1 year. The scholarship provides a fortnightly allowance of approximately $4,706 per year (pro rata).

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • be a medical graduate applying for or enrolled in a graduate research degree at the Department of Medicine, St Vincent's Hospital.
  • satisfy the faculty's eligibility standards for course and scholarship.
  • engage in full-time postgraduate studies

Future graduate research students of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences must complete an online application for course.

Students who are currently enrolled in the research degree for which they seek the scholarship must complete an online application for Graduate Research Scholarships.

Recipients of trust funded scholarships are required to reapply annually (by 31 October) or their scholarship funding will cease.

The Head of the Department of Medicine at St Vincent's Hospital recommends eligible applicants to the Faculty Research Training Committee. The committee will then select the recipient based on academic merit and the terms of the trust.

Successful candidates will be advised of the outcome of their application according to the Faculty's published timelines.
