Donovan-Johnston Memorial Scholarship

The Donovan-Johnston Memorial Scholarship was established with a bequest from the late Kathleen Mary Johnston.

The scholarship is awarded annually for one or more medical practitioners to enable them to attend education courses conducted by or in association with the Royal College of Surgeons of England; or (b) participate in a clinical attachment to one or more hospitals within the United Kingdom recognised for training towards Fellowship of the Royal college of Surgeons of England.

This scholarship is one of several trust-funded scholarships available through the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences for students who have applied for, or are enrolled in a graduate research degree of the faculty.

 


Benefits

Up to $50,000. Funds will be shared among multiple applicants.

The scholarship will normally pay for an economy return airfare, tuition, accommodation and living costs for successful applicants.

Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • be a medical graduate enrolled in a graduate research degree in the Melbourne Medical School, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences and must meet the requirements specified below.

This scholarship is to support graduate research students of the Melbourne Medical School to enable them to:

  1. Attend education courses conducted by or in association with the Royal College of Surgeons of England, or
  2. Participate in a clinical attachment to one or more hospitals within the United Kingdom recognised for training towards Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

You must apply for this scholarship by submitting an application form. (Link for the application form will be provided when the scholarship is open for applications.)

Selection

Eligible candidates are selected by the Faculty Research Training Committee on the basis of academic merit and the terms of the trust.

Outcome

Successful candidates will be advised of the outcome of their application by Friday 25 August 2017.

It is strongly recommended that students considering applying for this scholarship discuss their proposed studies with the relevant Department of Surgery Head at the Austin, Northern, Royal Melbourne, St Vincent's and Western Hospitals. Medical graduates planning to be based at the Royal Children's Hospital or Eye and Ear Hospital should contact Research Development before proceeding with an application.
